Each holiday season, The Salvation Army engages in the tradition of "staffing the kettles" to raise funds for and promote the plight of the needy in McLean County. This practice is critical to The Salvation Army's cause, as the money it raises supports the organization’s programs for the rest of the year. Thanks to the generosity of thousands of McLean County residents and businesses, The Salvation Army is able to continue to provide valuable programs such as the Safe Harbor homeless shelter, the Comprehensive Emergency Assistance program, the Food Pantry and the Holiday Assistance program.

During the holidays, families and individuals receive clothing, food, holiday meals and other items which are donated by the community. We also work with Toys For Tots to distribute Christmas toys to children who would otherwise go without. In 2008, The Salvation Army of McLean County distributed over 23,500 toys and 1,450 food baskets through our holiday programs.
